What is Rancho Oaks Girl Scout Day Camp?
Rancho Oaks Girl Scout Day Camp is a wonderful outdoor experience for Girl Scouts of all ages.
Younger girls learn new skills, participate in fun activities, and meet new friends.
Older Girl Scouts learn new leadership skills as they run the activities, lead patrols of campers, and work on Girl Scout awards.

Camp is one week and runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day. Registration is open to all registered Girl Scouts.

Cost of Rancho Oaks Girl Scout Day Camp is:
$85 for the week for Girl Scout Campers entering Kindergarten – 6th grades .
$50 for the week for Girl Scout (trained) PAs currently entering 7th – 12th grade
We can not offer any late registrations.
For our adult volunteers we also offer:
100%
discount for the week for one daughter attending camp IF the adult is volunteering 5 days
50% discount if the adult is volunteering 3-4 days

Everyone receives:
* Camp T-Shirt
* Camp Participation Patch
* A Lifetime of Memories
Some things to consider…

(1) Be an Amazing Volunteer!
Every adult volunteer means at least SIX more girls can attend camp.  Talk about a super power!
You can volunteer for as little as one day or as many as all 5 days.
Please remember to register yourself as an Adult Volunteer.  This is more than just marking the “YES, I’d like to help” box.
(2) Best Friends at Camp.
Our Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette campers may want to be in the same patrol as their friend, and while we try to accommodate those requests, we cannot always. Day Camp is a great place to meet new friends and try new things. You can support your daughter in this by encouraging them to bravely face this challenge.
(3) Badges & Fun Patches
Registration includes your camper's T-shirt and an event patch for her vest.
You will find a list of what she will earn under the “What Will the Girls Earn” menu above.
(4) Shooting Sports at Camp
We offer archery at camp. For safety reasons, we can only offer archery to girls who are exiting 2nd grade. However, we will have an alternate activity at camp for our youngest campers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What information do I need to register my daughter for camp?
A: All registration for day camp is online. If you have filled out the council cognito forms that were emailed to you after you registered, then you should be good to go. If we are missing information, we will contact you.
Q: I need to correct some of the information I entered during registration.  How do I correct it?
A: To update your Girl Scout’s registration, please email [email protected] with your daughter’s name and what information you need to correct.  You may also call 800-822-2427.
Q: Do you accept checks?
A: Yes we can accept checks.  They will need to be mailed in to the council to be processed.
Q: Do you have financial aid?
A: Please speak with your troop leader and or your service unit in order to create a plan to get your daughter to camp. Another option is to volunteer at camp for a greatly reduced price!
Q: What High Risk Activities happen at camp?
A: We have several activities that are considered High Risk, though we don’t do them all each year and we may add something new.
Archery:  We have certified instructors staffing our archery range at all times. The girls are taught the rules of the range and the bows are sized for youth. Parents may request that their child not be allowed to shoot. Generally, girls in 2nd grade and lower are given alternative activities during the archery station.
Many years we offer a cooking station. This generally includes fire and knives. All Girl Scouts can participate in some form and are all taught safety as part of the station.

Q: Why can’t girls going into 2nd grade or lower participate in regular archery?
A: GSCCC specifies that archery is for girls Brownie age or older. Children younger than this generally do not have the strength needed to pull and hold the bow string.  Girls going into 2nd grade are officially Daisies until October 1, 2020.
Q: My daughter is not a Girl Scout, can she still come to camp?
A: Yes, you do not need to be a Girl Scout in an active troop, however, you do need to register her as a Girl Scout with Girl Scouts of the USA.  You may register her during the camp registration process.  The cost to register with GSUSA is $25.00. This price will allow your daughter to attend day camps, participate in Girl Scout activities during the summer. There is an option to pay $35.00 which covers the summer and your daughter can continue to be a Girl Scout through the following year.  Accepted forms of payment are credit and debit cards.
Q: Can my daughter be with her friend?
A: Girls often want to be with their friends. And while we try to accommodate those requests, Day Camp is about branching out, being brave and trying new things. Along these lines, we encourage all girls to make new friends at camp. There are many opportunities to be with friends throughout the day, even if they aren't in the same patrol.
Q: The girls in my daughter’s troop are different ages. Why can she not be in the same group as the older/younger girls from her troop?
A: Many of our activities are adjusted for the age of the girls doing that activity that day.  If girls are placed with the wrong age level at camp, they will not be safe, may be bored, and won’t complete the proper activities at camp.  If you feel she should be placed at a Girl Scout level that does not agree with her grade in school, please contact us with your reasoning and we will consider your request.  All such decisions are made by the Camp Director and are final.
Q: My daughter will be in 6th grade next fall.  Will she be a Camper or a PA at camp?
A: She will be a camper! If your daughter would like to eventually be a PA she will need to complete PA Core Training in the spring, when she is in the 6th grade.
Q: Why don’t the older girls who are volunteering attend camp for free?
A: The older girls are still part of the girl program. These girls are working on awards during camp and participating in all of the activities at camp. They require supervision and will be using the facilities at camp.
Q: Is there an adult volunteer discount?
A: Yes, you can volunteer for part of the week or even the whole week.  If you volunteer all 5 days,  your daughter will attend camp for free.  If you can’t volunteer all week, you will get a discount based on the number of days you can volunteer: 3 days = 50%.  4-5 days = 100% The discounts apply to one girl registration (any level).  If you are registering two daughters for camp and you plan to volunteer for the week, one  girl goes for free and you pay the regular fee for the other.  Of course, if you register two girls and you have two adults volunteer (spouse, grandparent, uncle…) then both girls go for free.
Interested in volunteering?  We’d love to have you!  Every full week volunteer means at least SIX more girls can attend camp.
Volunteers who do not complete a background check or attend any required training will forfeit their discount and will not be allowed to volunteer for the week. In addition, volunteers who do not complete the week of camp will be required to pay the full camp fee and may be denied a volunteer position at camp in future years.

Q: Will I be with my daughter’s Patrol at camp?
A: No, the Program Aides are our Patrol Leaders.  As an adult volunteer, you may see your daughter when her Patrol rotates to the Station where you are working.  You may also eat lunch with her patrol. Either way, she will have a lot to share with you at the end of the day!
Q: What happens if I don’t give my daughter permission to be photographed?
A: We will do our best to ensure our photographers do not take her picture when they are taking candid shots of the campers during the day.  In addition she will not be included in her patrol’s group photo or in the all-camp photo.
Camp photos we take can be posted on the camp website, to a private online photo site for you to access, and are printed for use in activities we do at camp.

Q: Does my daughter need to wear her camp shirt every day?
A: Yes.  We have camp shirts for several reasons, the most important is safety.  With all participants in the same shirt, it makes identification in a semi-public place much easier.  We know which people at our location are with “camp” and which aren’t.  Also, with camp shirts, all the girls are on the same team.  There are no wardrobe comparisons, no treasured shirts to get paint on, etc.
Q: May my daughter decorate her shirt or alter it with scissors, beads, etc.?
A: No. As in previous years, no alterations are allowed to the camp shirts – no exceptions.
Q: How do I check my daughter in and out of camp?
A: You will need to park and come to the Headquarters tent each day. Campers must be signed out by an approved adult.
Q: Can my PA daughter sign her siblings in and out of camp?
A: No. Only the adults who you specify during the registration process can sign campers in or out of camp.
Q: My daughter will be a Cadette Camper this year.  Can she sign herself out like the PAs?
A: No. These girls have not had PA Core Training and are still officially considered to be in the Younger Girl program. GSCCC requires that a parent must come to the Headquarters tent each day to sign her out.
Q: Can I drop my daughter off early?
A: No.  We do not have adequate supervision for girls prior to camp’s designated starting time.  While there are people on site, our volunteers are getting ready for the day’s activities.  Please do not bring your camper to our camp location expecting to sign her in early.  If you cannot be there to be responsible for her, be sure you have made arrangements with another adult.
Q: Can I drop my camper off with her PA sister?
A: No. Please do not bring your camper to our camp location expecting to sign her in early.  If you cannot be there to be responsible for her, be sure you have made arrangements with another adult.
Q: I’ll need to pick my daughter up early from camp one day. What do I do?
A: Come to the Headquarters tent and let the volunteers there know that you need to sign her out. They will send for her.  Be sure to plan ahead for the time necessary to locate her and for her to walk to the Headquarters tent.
Q: I need to have a friend pick my daughter up from camp one day. What do I do?
A: During registration, you can list the names of anyone who is allowed to sign your daughter out of camp.  If you forgot to list someone, please contact us.  Please be sure that your daughter knows the person who will be picking her up.
Q: Who is allowed to pick my daughter up from camp?
A: During registration, you must provide your own information.  You can also provide the information for a second parent and you can list the names of anyone else who is allowed to sign your daughter out of camp.  Only these individuals, with their driver’s license in hand, will be allowed to pick your daughter up from camp.
Note: If you choose to NOT provide the information for a second parent, that second parent will NOT be allowed to remove your child from camp.  No exceptions.

Q: I need to make sure a particular person does NOT sign my daughter out of camp. What do I do?
A: During registration, you can list the names of anyone who is NOT allowed to sign your daughter out of camp. If they are not listed as being allowed to remove your daughter from camp, or if you have specified that they can NOT remove your daughter from camp, your daughter will not be released.
Q: Will my daughter be eating at Day Camp?
A: Each girl must bring her own snacks and lunch daily.  Be sure your daughter’s lunch is packed in an insulated bag with an appropriate ice pack to keep her food cold.
In addition, some activities, like Outdoor Cooking, involve food. Be sure to let us know of any  food allergies during registration.

Q: Will my daughter be able to refill her water bottle?
A: Each girl should have a refillable water bottled labeled clearly with her Patrol and camp name (or regular name) as there will be water coolers readily available for the girls to refill their bottles.
Q: My daughter has already earned her PA Pin; are there other programs she can work towards at camp?
A: Yes. Older girl may be able to earn their service to Girl Scout bar, or their CIT pin.

Adult Volunteer and Program Aide Training

Adult Volunteer Orientation
Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast requires that anyone working at Day Camp be a registered Girl Scout with a current background check, livescan fingerprints and mandatory reporter training.  Volunteers should communicate with the Day Camp directors and registrar in order to have all the knowledge they need to make Day Camp the best experience possible for everyone.

Program Aide Training
Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast requires that any Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador Girl Scout working at Day Camp must take Program Aide Core Training.  This is a one (1) time training class open to girls currently in 6th grade or higher.  Girls do not need to take the class each year.   Check the Council Calendar for dates, times, and locations.
In addition, Rancho Oaks Day Camp requires PAs to attend pre camp meetings and trainings. One of these is an overnight which covers specific information for the current Day Camp's procedures and operations.

NOTE: Program Aides who do not attend the required trainings will not be able to complete their service hours at Rancho Oaks Day Camp.
