Troop Banking

Picture
Finances are very important.
This is what keeps your troop active without being a burden on the pocketbooks of your parents. But there are proper channels we must go through as Girl Scouts for our girls to raise money and guidelines on how it is spent.
A few rules to always follow with your troop account:
  • Be Transparent! Let your troop and parents know how much money you have, how it is being spent and allow them to see the troop bank statements.
  • Keep it Girl-led. The troop should be deciding how money will be spent with guidance from troop leaders.
  • Be upfront. If you are planning how to spend your money, girls and parents need to know exactly what the expectations are.
  • Keep good records! Keep all receipts from all purchases and remember to mark down how much you spent and on what.
We highly recommend that troops keep a "banking binder." This would be where you place all bank statements and receipts for the year. You can also keep track of your spending and deposits. Be prepared to share this information with parents, troop co-leaders, girls and your service unit.

Below are forms you will need to keep track of your troop finances.
Troop Start-up
Troop Banking Policies
  • Guidelines for you and your troop treasurer to follow. If you have any questions, please contact your Service Unit Treasurer.
BACA form
  • This form should be filled out by the troop treasurer and turned in to the SU treasurer. The BACA guide will help you fill it out correctly. This form is only needed when setting up your troop account or making changes to your account.

Troop Start Up Assistance (council form)  (service unit form)
  • Depending on the time of year your troop starts up, you may need financial assistance in order for your girls to have the best experience. This may come from the service unit or from council. You need only ask.

How does my troop make money?

There are some very specific guidelines that all Girl Scout troops must follow in order to properly earn money for events, camps, travel and projects. It is imperative that you read these carefully to ensure that your event falls under the rules and guidelines. Once you've read them and decided that your activity does fall under the rules of money earning, here are your next steps.

Money earning application Prior to your money earning event or activity, you should fill out and turn in this application to your service unit treasurer, regardless of whether or not you believe you will make money.
Money earning report When your money earning event or activity is over, you should fill out and turn in this form to your service unit treasurer. This will let them know if you made money or not.

Year-end troop financial report Every troop must turn in this form, filled out by the end of October to the service unit treasurer along with receipts for purchases throughout the year
